Author Event: Writing Femme Identity

Join All She Wrote Books for an IN-PERSON event with debut poet Tatiana Johnson-Boria in conversation with fellow author Melissa Lozada-Oliva on Monday, February 19th at 7:00pm at Connexion*, located at 149 Broadway, Somerville, MA 02145.

About Nocturne in Joy:

Nocturne in Joy is séance, city sidewalk crack, and growing with an absence. Johnson-Boria writes into the drunken boat of her family home revealing that she is the sea her ancestors called to and wade through. Breeding butterflies in freezer bags, the book lives between downpour and daylight.

From latch-key kid watching her first panting dog cross a broken street, to EMDR therapy and cleaving to narratives not her own, Nocturne in Joy is an elegy to Black womxn through the cultivation of healing for a collective daughter.

It seeks to "render their stories in me"--truly a collection of form-breaking and reverence, ancestral voices and intergenerational desire, Nocturne in Joy refuses endings. It is a living, boundless text.

About Tatiana Johnson-Boria:

Tatiana Johnson-Boria (she/her) is the author of NOCTURNE IN JOY (2023). Her writing explores identity, trauma, especially inherited trauma, and what it means to heal. She’s a recipient of distinguished fellowships from The Massachusetts Cultural Council, The MacDowell Residency, The Brother Thomas Fund, and others. She’s received honorable mention for the 2021 and 2020 Academy of American Poets Prize and is a 2017 Pushcart Prize nominee. Tatiana completed her MFA in Creative Writing at Emerson College and is a 2021 Tin House Scholar. She teaches at Emerson College, GrubStreet, Catapult, and others. About Melissa Lozada-Oliva:

Melissa Lozada-Oliva (she/her) is the child of Guatemalan and Colombian immigrants and the author of Candelaria, Dreaming of You and peluda. Her work has been featured in NPR, Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, PAPER, Armani Beauty, and more. She is a member of the band Meli and the Specs. She holds an MFA in poetry from NYU and lives in New York City.
